Reverb in my Bass

For a long time now Isis has been a favorite of mine, their sound has always been impressive and evolving. Jeff Caxide, the bassist for the band, has used all kinds of FX on their albums and managed to achieve some really unique sounds. One in particular that I have gravitated towards was heavy reverb throughout key portions of songs. After some research I picked up a reverb pedal and gave it a go. Below is a simple scratch track of some ideas, and of course reverb.

Alcest: Music Transcends all Boundaries

On my never ending quest for new music I was recently introduced to a band called Alcest. Being that Black Metal isn’t particularly my favorite sub-genre of metal, I didn’t expect to like it much before I listened. However much like my taste, Alcest too had changed over time.

A band who used to be primarily focused in Black Metal, now creates a very unique and beautiful blend of Metal and perhaps some of the most soothing melodies ever. “The catch”….. it’s all in French. This marks the first album I have purchased that is solely in a different language. So mix a genre of metal that I’m not really fond of, throw in a foreign language, and some beautiful melodies, and apparently you have a mix for some mind blowing work that I can’t seem to get enough of.

So that being said here is a song off the album that has said melodies but, none of the metal. Give a listen and let me know what you think.

Chicks With Guns – A Follow Up

So after the host changing, I haven’t really spent any time keeping the blog up to date. In-fact I just assumed no-one really read the blog so I wasn’t too concerned with keeping it up to date. Obviously with that kind of thinking there will be nothing to read, however I received an email today that encouraged me to write some more posts.

Lindsay Mccrum @ http://www.lindsaymccrum.com/ , author of Chicks With Guns, emailed me today taking a moment to thank me for a post I wrote in December. I was blown away that she took the time to read and write an email thanking me for my post. If you are curious or have not view this post check it out here [ http://www.aspaceman.com/chicks-with-guns/ ] I stand by my review and highly recommend this book, and I will have a few more reviews coming soon. Stay tuned.

More Headers

I spent some time tonight plugging in some more headers for the website. If you are not sure what these awesome headers are, they are the main image you see at the top of the website that will change as you navigate through or reload the website. I had a small selection before, but I wanted to expand what people could see of the site at first glance. So if you have some free time, navigate around and take a peek at the new headers. If you like something you see, or have some comments leave them on this post, and I will get right back to you.

2012 and New Hosting

Well it’s January 1st and what better way to start the new year than to change my hosting? I decided to move from godaddy and switch to dreamhost after a few friends recommended their services. So here is to a new year, and new hosting. So did you start your new year?

P.S. Thanks to Denis and Pat for helping me tackle the craziness that is site/host transferring.
